Here at GetTesting we were recently contacted by a leading training provider to complete PAT testing at their learning centres across England.
Most of their courses are delivered online so the testing was mostly IT based, with some office and kitchen areas used by the staff members. This posed a challenge as the learners, while not being tested can pop in and use the equipment around their free time. Careful scheduling was required to ensure that PAT testing did not clash with any examination days.
The client has two sites in Nottingham and we managed to get those tested in one day, along with three other remote sites – one in the North West and two on the outskirts of the M25. Our engineer was onsite at 08:00 to complete the two London area sites in a single day and the North West site was completed on its own. The job was complete in 3 days split over a week and a half and exam days were completely avoided.
The client’s previous contractor had also listed on their report that all appliances must be tested annually. Upon completion of testing we issued our report recommending reduced PAT test frequencies on some lower-risk equipment and appliances not used by members of the public.
We have previously completed many jobs like this for other clients where we go beyond our normal coverage range for multi-site operators and each one is quoted on a case-by-case basis. Some examples are:
A recruitment and temporary staff provider with a head office in Nottingham that had 5 remote offices from London to Leeds. Special care was taken to avoid days where they run payroll operations.
A provider of arcade and children’s ride machines to pubs and bars throughout Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and South Yorkshire. Scheduling was very important here to make sure that the engineer was not turning up at closed pubs or this would have over-ran into a second day. A special day-rate plus travel cost was calculated for the client as some sites only had 1 appliance and it would have worked out overly expensive if charged per site.
A building contractor running simultaneous projects in Sale, Bolton and Derby that needed their site offices, canteen facilities, tooling and festoon lighting setups PAT testing on a 3 monthly basis. These were completed across a two day period.
